NSW hot water conversion
At a date yet to be determined, hot water consumption must be displayed in megajoules (MJ) or kilowatt-hours (kWh) rather than litres (L). This change primarily affects embedded network operators and hot water retailers that bill residents for centrally heated hot water in apartment buildings and similar developments.
Your actions
If you manage buildings located in NSW, you will need to complete the following steps to convert these buildings:
- Add the conversion factor to the water building
Refer to the Knowledge Base article Buildings - add building conversion factor.
- Submit a support ticket specifying the unit of measure to be used for each building (MJ or kWh).
Note: We may be able to update the unit of measure for the HOT meter type.
If different buildings require different units of measure, or if buildings outside NSW will continue to use kL/L, new meter types may be required.
The conversion factor will depend on how the hot water is heated:
If gas is used to heat the water:
Total MJ = Litres Consumed × Conversion Factor (MJ/L)
If electricity is used to heat the water:
Total kWh = Litres Consumed × Conversion Factor (kWh/L)
